Cottonwood Fire responds to an infant who stopped breathing.

Sunday evening, Cottonwood Fire responded to a 911 call reporting a choking infant. Firefighter Ben Kramer says the caller stated the baby was no longer breathing.Kramer says the 911 caller reported that the baby had been choking. Kramer says when crews arrived the baby’s airway had been cleared by the parents and he was able to breath normally and was uninjured. Kramer says the parents did the right thing by immediately calling 911 and beginning back blows to clear the infant’s airways. Kramer says that anyone who takes care of infants and children should take a CPR class or can at least stop by any fire station for quick tips on what to do in case of a choking event in a young one. CPR classes are offered year round. Check with your local fire department for details.
