Coconino County Sheriff’s Office is reminding citizens to beware of scams in which someone contacts you by phone, text or email saying that your Social Security Number, credit card number, computer or website password or login, or other personal information has been compromised. Officials say many of these scammers are trying to get you to give them your personal information by saying they need you to “verify” it. In other cases, they may say they used your personal information already to set up computer spyware or to use in some other illegal activity. They may have partial numbers and passwords but that does not mean they have all your information. What they are trying to do is to get you to give them the rest of the information so they can exploit you. Officials say don’t fall victim to their tactics. Do not give out any personal information and never call back the number they provide. Use only the legitimate, published phone number for that agency or website that you find yourself.
