More than 50 school districts across Arizona will buy new school buses using cash from a lawsuit settlement with automaker Volkswagen. Nearly $16 million will go towards the purchase of 142 diesel or alternative fuel buses to replace the District’s aged and worn out buses. Beaver Creek Elementary, Mingus Union High school and Mayer will receive one new bus each. Cottonwood Oak Creek and Page will get three. Winslow and Holbrook four, with Kingman receiving 10 new buses. Arizona was awarded $57 million when Volkswagen settled a federal lawsuit over an emissions cheating scandal two years ago. $38 million was earmarked for buses and rest for wildland fire crews and Department of Transportation equipment.
