Flagstaff Snow Park approved to use County potable water for snowmaking

At their last meeting, the Coconino County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a contract between Coconino County and Flagstaff Snow Park for use of potable water for snowmaking at Fort Tuthill despite the City of Flagstaff’s opposition to the county’s use of water. The county’s potable or drinking water comes from the City of Flagstaff’s wells. Flagstaff Snow Park will be allotted as much as 1 million gallons of water per year for their snowmaking. The board chose potable water for snowmaking because there is no existing source for reclaimed water in the area. Some board members are holding hope that reclaimed water might be piped out to Fort Tuthill in the future. City officials have concerns over how much potable water is already being used at Fort Tuthill.
