BBB says twenty million veterans the target of scammers.

Better Business Bureau says over twenty million veterans may become the target of scammers who take advantage of the Veteran’s day holiday. Since January alone, the BBB has received more than 6,500 complaints affecting military & veterans nationwide, particularly the Army branch. Officials say the top military frauds targeting veterans are; The Employment Scam: targeting those veterans fresh out of the military and searching for employment. The red flag here is when scammers ask the applicant to pay money upfront for training purposes. The Military Record Update Scam: Veterans receive a call from scammers claiming they work for the VA asking for personal information to “update their records” for identity fraud purposes. The Rental Scam: when the victim will realize there is no rental available and they are out the full deposited amount. The Car Purchase Scam: Ads for low-price vehicles appealing specifically to military personnel or a claiming to be from soldiers who need to sell fast because of deployment. Veterans Charity Fundraisers Scam: used to solicit funds for fake veterans’ charities or legitimate ones that only pass on a tiny amount and keep most of the funds themselves. And be wary of special Military only Loans. For more consumer programs and military resources, check out bbb.org/military.
