Cottonwood man apprehended by police last week was found guilty of theft of a firearm.

A Cottonwood man, apprehended by police last week, was found guilty of theft of a firearm. Cottonwood Police Sgt. Monica Kuhlt says 29-year old Seth Backus was captured by Police last week after officers responded to a victim who reported he was being threatened by someone. Kuhlt says when officers spotted Backus, he was carrying a black gun case over his shoulder but threw the case and fled. He was caught after a short foot chase and the case was recovered. The gun matched a firearm reported as stolen on Friday. Monday, Backus was charged with burglary and theft of a firearm. He was already in custody for outstanding warrants and being in possession of a firearm as a prohibited possessor.
