Fatal crash on Highway 89 north of Flagstaff caused by large sinkhole

Last night, just before midnight DPS troopers responded to the report of a collision due to a large sinkhole on southbound Highway 89, north of Flagstaff, near Cameron. Trooper Kameron Lee says once on scene, troopers found the area had experienced heavy rain and a portion of the highway had washed out, creating a large sink hole. Lee says preliminary information about the collision is that it involved two vehicles. There has been one confirmed fatality. Southbound Highway 89 is closed at the Highway 160 junction and northbound is closed at Cameron. Lee says this will be an extended closure. A lengthy detour is in place. When more information is released we’ll pass it along.
