Prescott Fire responds to two structure fires on Sunday morning

Early Sunday morning, Prescott Fire responded to the Prescott Lakes subdivision on a report of smoke coming from an unknown location. Spokesman Dave Haskell says crews arrived to find a 3000 square foot home on Golden Hawk 50-percent involved in flames. The fire had to be fought from the exterior only due to the fact that interior floors had already collapsed. Haskell says crews controlled the fire in under an hour.  Though the fire is still under investigation, lightning is the most likely cause. Damages are estimated to be greater than $500,000. While crews were finishing up from this fire, Haskell says a second structure fire was reported in Prescott Heights. Homeowners reported flames coming from a wall in their kitchen. The homeowner reported seeing sparks and hearing a popping noise before the smoke alarms were activated. Crews quickly knocked down the fire.  Though the investigation found electrical wiring that did not appear to have been done by a licensed electrician in the fires area of origin, the cause is still being investigated.
