State and County Officials Warn Residents of Potential Exposure to Measles in Arizona

The Arizona Department of Health Services is recommending residents check their measles immunization status immediately. Health officials say an out-of-state visitor with potentially contagious measles recently traveled in Northern Arizona from August 6th–8th. Officials say this visitor may have exposed the public at these locations; on Monday, August 6th; in Sedona at Slide Rock State Park and Enchantment Resort in Sedona. On Tuesday, August 7th; In Sedona at Pump House Station Urban Eatery and Market, Redrock Precision Motors, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Tlaquepaque and Rene Restaurant in Tlaquepaque. And on Wednesday, August 8th; Cracker Barrel Old Country Store in Kingman. As public health continues the investigation, these locations could be expanded. Health Services Director, Dr. Cara Christ says you may be protected from measles if you were vaccinated for measles or if you have previously had the disease. For more information on measles or where to get vaccinated, call your county health department. Medical questions should be directed to your health care provider.There are currently no cases of measles in Arizona.

What to do if you think you have measles:

  • If you have a healthcare provider, contact him/her by phone and let them know that you may have been exposed to measles. They will let you know when to visit their office so as not to expose others in the waiting area.
  • If you do not have a health care provider, you may need to be seen at your local hospital emergency room or urgent care center. Please call before going to let them know you may have measles.
