Prescott Valley Police trains first civilian phlebotomist

The Prescott Valley Police Department recently trained its first civilian phlebotomist, Misty Edwards. Law enforcement phlebotomists are typically sworn police officers with specialized training to draw blood for investigative purposes, including DUI investigations and DNA testing. However, officials say more and more civilians are being trained for this in law enforcement. Edwards completed the Forensic Phlebotomy Program at Phoenix College, a clinical externship at the VA Hospital in Phoenix and has worked as a Civilian Evidence Technician for over two years.
