77-year old man dies after becoming stuck in floodwaters Tuesday evening in Cochise County

Authorities in Cochise County say a 77-year-old man has died after the car he was driving got stuck in flooded wash late Tuesday evening in the unincorporated community of Cochise in southeastern Arizona. County Sheriff’s officials say the man called authorities to say water was halfway up the outside of his vehicle and was continuing to rise. He stayed on the cellphone and later said the water was inside of the vehicle and up to the dashboard and he was getting into the backseat.

Authorities say the cellphone then disconnected. A search and rescue crew later located the vehicle and say the man inside was dead. The man’s name has not yet been released.
