Motorhome crashes into church and parked car in Cordes Lakes

Sunday, YCSO deputies were dispatched to a church parking lot located in the 20,000 block of Club Lane, Cordes Lakes, regarding a motorhome colliding with a church building. Spokesman Dwight D’Evelyn says the reporting party told deputies they heard a crashing noise during the church service, and when they went outside they found a motorhome had collided with the building. It was also discovered that the driver, 58-year-old Stephen Merrigan, of Cordes Lakes, struck a car parked in the church lot.Deputies arrived and interviewed Merrigan who admitted to damaging a parked car and colliding with the church building. D’Evelyn says he also admitted to consuming a 6-pack of beer about an hour or so before. Merrigan performed poorly during a field sobriety test and showed signs and symptoms of impairment. Merrigan was booked into the Camp Verde Detention Center on a charge of Driving Under the Influence.
