Heavy monsoon showers have slowed fire progression

The fires aren’t out, but heavy rains this week have drastically reduced the spread of management fires on the Coconino National Forest. In each case the fires are being allowed to burn their course until they reach certain boundaries or the monsoon puts them out. The fires include the Bristow Fire southwest of Munds Park, the Platypus and Rhino Fires in the Red Rock Secret Mountain Wilderness near Sedona, the Seep Fire near Kendrick Park and Highway-180 outside Flagstaff and the Deer Fire near CC Cragin Reservoir. Although the fires growth has slowed this week, growth will likely increase over the weekend as the chance of rain goes down and the temperatures got up. The Surveyor Fire in Oak Creek Canyon is the only fire being suppressed. Crews have stopped that fire at just under 10-acres. Management fires are also burning on the Prescott, Kaibab and Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests.
