Turn Around Don’t Drown.

The National Weather Service says the Monsoon is due to start around the 6th of July. Officials say rains are expected to be heavier than normal this season, which raises the potential for flash floods. They say most flood related deaths and injuries could have been avoided if people had followed the simple phrase, “Turn around don’t drown”. Officials say more than 50-percent of flood related deaths are due to someone walking or driving into flood waters. They say 6-inches of water can sweep an adult of their feet and carry them away, 12-inches will carry off a small car and 18 will sweep away a truck, van or SUV. Other dangers during Monsoons include dust storms, lightning, strong winds and high temperatures.
