377 Fire grows to well over 1,500 acres

The 377 Fire in eastern Arizona quickly grew to over 1,500-acres Monday. The fire is burning on the Black Mesa Ranger District and has forced the evacuation of ranches north of the highway. A shelter for livestock and people has been established at Martinez Hall at the Navajo County Fairgrounds in Holbrook. Officials say the fire has affected power, internet and phone lines in the area. A Type 3 and Type 2 team are working together to contain the fire. The fire was first spotted at around 1:30 in the afternoon and was initially several roadside fires that combined into one. The cause of the fire was linked to a motorist dragging a trailer that had its tailgate down.
