More roadside fires in Prescott

The public continues to be reminded of the “One Less Spark One Less Wildfire” campaign as Prescott Fire crews responded to multiple roadside fires Friday morning. Spokesman Conrad Jackson says they responded to multiple grass fires along the side of Iron Springs Road, 7-miles west of the city. Due to the dry conditions, the Forest Service responded an additional two engines, a Hotshot crew, and their helicopter to assist in fire suppression. The arriving engines found four separate fires spread out along roughly a half mile of the road, with the largest being a quarter of an acre in size. All the fires were located on the south side of the road; southwest winds Friday morning, pushed the fire towards the roadway as opposed to the nearby canyon. He says each fire was quickly stopped. It’s believed a dragging chain was the cause of the fires. Jackson says they’ve had nearly 2-dozen fires like this in the past two weeks.
