Smoking outside banned under Stage II

Copper Canyon Fire and Medical officials say since moving into Stage II Fire Restrictions they’ve received multiple inquiries as to what that means for people smoking cigarettes outside. Fire officials say, simply stated- it is not allowed. They say once relative humidity gets down below 22%, cigarettes are quite capable of starting a fire. Couple that with higher temperatures and windy conditions and you have the recipe for an unwanted wildfire. Officials say if you are going to smoke, you must limit your smoking to the inside of enclosed buildings or inside enclosed vehicles and to not discard your cigarettes outside. Fire officials also say if your actions cause a fire, you could be held civilly or criminally liable.
