Polaris issuing recalls for about 107,000 Razors and pays 27.5 million in fines

A new recall has been issued for 107,000 2014-2018 Polaris RZR XP 1000s due to possibility of exhaust silencer fatigue and cracks. This can cause the heat shield to fail, melting nearby components and causing fire. Initially, Polaris received 36 reports of fires and made two design changes to the Razors to prevent the heat shields from becoming loose and falling off. But, Polaris failed to immediately notify the Consumer Product Safety Commission of the defect or risk as required by federal law. Commission Officials say Polaris has agreed to pay over 27 million in civil penalties for failing to immediately report the issue. By the time Polaris did report the defect, it had received reports of 150 fires, including one that resulted in the death of a 15-year old passenger.
