Introduction to Representational Sculpting

April 8, 2017 10:00 AM

If you’ve ever wanted to try your hand at sculpting, the Phippen Museum has the perfect opportunity for you on Saturday and Sunday, April 8th and 9th, 2017 from 10AM to 4PM. Offered by bronze sculptor, Neal McEwen, this class is an introduction to clay sculpture and is recommended for ages 15 and older. The cost for this introductory, two-day workshop is $75 and topics will include assembly of bases, a proven system for constructing an armature that ensures correct anatomical dimensions and practice in sculpting the skeletal and muscular structure. Special emphasis will also be placed on the application of hands-on technique in an effort to realize an accurate sculpture. Some materials are required and class size is limited, so be sure to sign up today by calling the museum at (928)778-1385.

Along with spending time sculpting in his studio near Prescott, Arizona, McEwen is also the Education Coordinator at the Phippen Museum. For him, the West isn’t an unknown concept from a history book; it’s part of his existence as he recalls his Montana upbringing, surveys his Arizona surroundings, tends to horses and brings life to his latest bronze sculpture.

So come be a part of the fun, learn more about the sculpting process and take your art into a new dimension. The Phippen Museum is located only a few minutes north of downtown Prescott at 4701 Highway 89 North.
