YCSO K9 Stop Locates more than a-half Pound of Meth
Monday YCSO arrested 29 year old Matthew Sturges and 19 year old Savanna Taylor, both from Oklahoma, along with 58 year old Michael Knesel of California, on felony drug charges following a traffic stop on I-40 in Ash Fork. Spokesman Dwight D’Evelyn says the deputy became suspicious after talking with the occupants. A K9 was eventually deployed and altered to the odor of drugs. Sturges was the driver and admitted there was a gun in the vehicle but denied there were any drugs. D’Evelyn says while searching the vehicle deputies recovered the handgun, marijuana and meth on the floorboard, a plastic baggie of meth in a backpack lying on the rear seat and money ‘washed’ in preparation to print higher denomination counterfeits. D’Evelyn says in the trunk an additional half pound of meth was found in 8 separately packaged baggies; the total weight of meth seized was nearly 9 ounces. A computer printer was also discovered in the trunk.
