Wrong Way Driver causes fatal crash and shuts down southbound I-17 Tuesday

Southbound I-17 near Black Canyon City was once again the scene of a major traffic backup Tuesday. Just after 2:30-pm, a wrong way driver headed northbound in the southbound lanes caused several crashes. One of those collisions involved a motorcycle rider who was killed in the crash. The wrong way driver, 76-year old Darroll Roberts of Black Canyon City, was arrested and the incident remains under investigation. The person killed has been identified as 50-year old Cindy Meade of Phoenix. The interstate was not reopened until just before 8-pm.
