Off duty deputy assaulted while trying to break up a fight

An off-duty YCSO deputy was assaulted while trying to break up a fight early Monday morning in Bagdad. Spokesman Dwight D’Evelyn says the deputy saw several women beating another woman who appeared to be trapped under a car. The deputy announced he was a YCSO deputy and attempted to help the woman being beaten. He says 29-year old Joseph Chavez refused to move away from the fight and told the deputy he didn’t care that he was a law enforcement officer. When the deputy tried to move Chavez, Chavez shoved the deputy. Chavez was arrested and charged aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.
