Mayer residents get to go home at 10am

Mayer residents are heading home this hour as YCSO lifts the evacuation. Residents can access their homes on Highway-69 from I-17; Highway-69 remains closed from Mayer to the Highway-169 junction. Goodwin Fire spokesperson Tiffany Davila says many roads in the area remain closed as firefighters continue to fight the fire, which has been burning since Saturday afternoon. The Goodwin Fire is 1% contained with nearly 25,000 acres burned. Davila says crews are making progress on this fire. Acreage only climbed slightly overnight and some of that is due to burnout operations being conducted by the firefighters. She says a drone over the fire on Wednesday shut down the firefighting efforts; YCSO is investigating. All other evacuations remain in place along with Orme School District being on pre-evacuation notice. A public meeting will be held tonight at 6pm at Lifepointe Church on Highway-69 in Prescott Valley.
