Detectives seeking a Firearm in the Catherine Sposito Homicide

30 years after Catherine Sposito, a Prescott College Student, was brutally murdered while hiking the Thumb Butte Trail, the investigation remains active. YCSO Spokesman Dwight D’Evelyn says detectives are looking for a small caliber firearm used in the homicide. He says there is a likelihood the weapon was dumped sometime after the murder on June 13-th, 1987 anywhere between the Thumb Butte Trail site and the Castle Canyon area of Prescott Valley. D’Evelyn asks anyone who recalls finding a small caliber gun in that area to call YCSO or Yavapai Silent Witness. A $10,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of the murderer.
