ADOT Gives Tip For Motorists to Prevent Wildfires Along Highways
ADOT is reminding motorists of ways they can help prevent wildfires along highways. Several brush fires have popped up the last several weeks, including south of Payson along Highway-87, along Highway-89 in Prescott and east of Flagstaff along I-40. Remember to never park in tall grass as the heat from parts under your vehicle can start a fire, make sure nothing is hanging from underneath your vehicle, when towing make sure chains are not dragging as those can create sparks and check tire pressure because exposed wheel rims can cause sparks as well.
ADOT says during the winter and spring crews mow vegetation along highway shoulders, remove brush, thin trees and spray fire retardant to prevent fires and slow the spread if a fire does occur.
