Activity on Highline Fire North of Payson Increases
Hotter and drier weather has increased activity on the Highline Fire burning about 8-miles north of Payson. Fire Managers say today firefighters are working to hold the fire north of Highline Trail, south of Forest Road 300, and construct dozer line above the communities in lower Ellison Creek. Fire Managers say the winds are pushing the fire north toward the Rim and east in upper Ellison Canyon. A Precautionary Pre-Evacuation Notification is in effect for residents in the Bonita Creek community. The fire is producing a large smoke column and smoke may impact communities to the north and east of the fire. The lightning-caused Highline Fire is over 1,300 acres and 0-percent contained.
