|As part of the Verde Valley Earth Day Extravaganza, Darcy Hitchcock with the Sustainability Alliance is offering a tour of her (mostly) sustainable home.
Water: ‘earthworks’ to direct storm water to fruit trees, graywater, rainwater collection.
Energy: Passive and active solar design, “geothermal” heating/cooling (ground-sourced heat pump)
Materials: Concrete floor provides thermal mass, fireproof exterior made with recycled styrofoam “integrated concrete forms,” materials/plants recovered from site, salvaged materials from ReSTORE etc.
Climate: Offset carbon emissions associated with cement.
