Fire restrictions start next week on Tonto National Forest

Tonto National Forest will go into fire restrictions starting next Wednesday morning. Officials say drought conditions, warm temperatures, and increasing fire danger have caused them to go into restrictions. Under the restrictions, building, maintaining, attending or using a fire, campfire or charcoal-burning device will be prohibited. Smoking is limited to inside a vehicle, developed recreation site or enclosed building; the use of a chainsaw or any other equipment powered by an internal combustion engine is prohibited between 9-am and 8-pm and target shooting is prohibited. Propane fueled devices can still be used.
