Sex offender fights with YCSO deputies/tries to run

Friday night, a check of a license plate showed the owner of the vehicle had an extraditable warrant out of the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office. YCSO spokesman Dwight D’Evleyn says when the deputy attempted to stop 62-year old Mark Sims of Glendale, Sims sped up and lead the deputy on a short pursuit. D’Evelyn says Sims eventually stopped, but refused to obey commands after he exited his vehicle and began pacing back-and-forth. At one point Sims stated that he was not going to go back to prison. Eventually two deputies struggled with Sims and took him into custody; a knife was found where Sims was taken to the ground. When placing Sims into the vehicle, Sims attempted to run a second time, but again was quickly caught. Sims was charged with resisting arrest, aggravated assault on an officer, escape and failure to register as a sex offender.
