Sedona Fire performs short haul rescue using DPS helicopter

Thursday afternoon, Sedona Fire received a call for a fallen hiker on Soldier’s Pass Trail. Fire Marshal John Davis says crews arrived to find a female hiker had fallen approximately 20ft down into Secret Cave. Davis says crews had to hike 6.5 miles which took several hours to get to the injured woman’s location on Brin’s Mesa. He says the woman was lifted from the bottom of the cave using the short-haul method of a rope and a DPS Ranger helicopter. Davis says the seriously injured woman was then flown to a local hospital for treatment.
